Their love also extends far beyond the classroom. So in her free time, she reached out to businesses and eventually partnered with the Motor City Casino to create the Roar Store, where students can earn money for good behavior to buy what they need.
Thomas grew up in the neighborhood and knows that many families struggle to make ends meet. “She helped me with scholarships last year when I graduated, she helps my brother and asks what he needs for Christmas,” Meliesha said. She gives every single one of these kids her last dime, her last dollar,” one person said. “She gives tutoring to kids that she doesn’t even offer. “She sees opportunity and potential in everyone,” Anna said.
